Garden Update
This Memorial Day weekend presented the perfect opportunity to introduce two additions to The Kitcheneer, the garden and Jake. As a guest contributor to The Kitcheneer I am very thankful for the wonderful meals my wife prepares, and for everyday that we are together.
Living in a semi-urban environment presents limited options for starting your own garden. The approach taken for our garden was a simple above ground, cedar framed, box. Each of the two boxes were filled with a garden soil mix, and protected from small animals by a white wire fence.
We wanted to grow several healthy staples that are routinely used in our kitchen. This included an assortment of vegetables and herbs:
*Zucchini
*Tomato
*Green Peppers
*Jalopeno Peppers
*Dill
*Cumin
*Green Onion
*Sage
*Cilantro
*Romaine Lettuce
*Swiss Chard
The following two pictures show the one week progression of our garden. We are currently in the process of thinning out the leafy greens and finding a location to transplant them. Please stay tuned for updates on the state of the garden and the wonderful recipes that Amanda uses them for!
