Winter Green Citrus Smoothie
Happy New Year everyone! Are you in as much disbelief as I am over the fact that it is now 2015??? I still wake up sometimes and think its 2008…
The holidays are officially over and it’s time to ring in the New Year with healthy habits.
I am actually proud to say that this is the first holiday season EVER where I didn’t cave in and have all the goodies I wanted. I had a bite of a cookie or a small spoonful of mashed potatoes. Just not an entire serving!
We also have been going to Crossfit 3X a week! Whew! Has it kicked our butts. We actually fell asleep around 10:30PM on New Year’s Eve because we were so exhausted. Then we got up the next day and did it again! And on Friday too!
Here is what one of the workouts consisted of:
A surprise 800m run warmup on the 25 degree morning….yay!
Then for time:
100 Air Squats
90 DUs (double unders) it means the jump rope passes twice under your feet before you land!!! I SUCK at these! It slowed me down big time
80 sit ups
70 lunges
60 deadlifts
50 burpees (I thought I would die at this point…but I made it through!)
40 KBS (Kettle Bell Swings)
30 Power Cleans
20 HRPU (Hand Release Push Ups)
10 Back Squats
That's us in the back left corner squatting 🙂
HOLY COW
But I still love it! And love how it makes me feel after each workout. Not during…cause well during involves curse words and much hatred for most things at the time….but after the endorphins kick in and I feel so accomplished. My goal is to bump it up to 4X a week after we have acclimated. J
Any who, yesterday’s WOD kicked my butt again and after work I knew I could use some more fuel for my recovery. Instead of reaching for air popped popcorn, I brought out the big bag of chopped kale from the fridge and made a wonderful concoction. A Winter Green Citrus Smoothie, it’s packed with nutrient dense kale, protein, orange juice, and berries!
Smoothies are the perfect refueling snack or a healthy option in general! They are so easy to manipulate into thousands of different flavor combos!
Serves 1: 355 calories, 4.2g fat, 188mg sodium, 42g net carbs, 6.5g sugar, 32g protein
You Need:
1 cup of pure orange juice or water (if using water it will lower the carbs and calories!) but you will lose the citrus!
2 oz of non fat Greek yogurt
2 cups of chopped kale
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
7 frozen strawberries (or whichever berry you prefer)
Directions:
Add all ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth!
Enjoy!

I am so impressed with that workout of yours. I'd die, I'd probably get on the floor and not come up for a very long time. This smoothie is a must after one of those routines.

I feel like such a sloth after reading your workout routine! I couldn't even get my freezing cold butt out of the house to get to the gym today, lol. Too Cold. But this smoothie, well that is something I can get behind!
