Back to this delectable peppermint mocha that just happens to be dairy free too! It pretty much feels like a holiday treat every morning but without the sugary syrups and expensive coffee shop to go with it.

Christmas is THIS weekend! Can you EVEN believe it??? Once again this holiday season has gone by in a blink of an eye! We are having a relatively quieter Christmas this year. Which I am NOT complaining about. Life has been a lot of ups and some big downs. We unfortunately had to say "see you later" to our boy Doolittle a few weeks ago. To say it's been a little hard to get into the holiday spirit is a HUGE under statement. We adopted him from the Virginia Beach SPCA when he was 4 years old. That was over 12 YEARS AGO. His favorite time was always Christmas and I am so happy he still had the opportunity this year to sit under the tree just being the bestest gift we could ever ask for ❀️.

And I know that not much can change it BUT I do know that anything coffee related can make things a little better. Like good for the soul kinda good. You hear me? I just wanted to pay tribute to my bestest boy here.

Christmas morning typically consists of being as SLOW as possible. Which I LOVE. We wear PJs ALL day, Jake is typically the barista here in this house (he actually helped me develop this recipe!!!), then I make waffles and bacon. It's simple but we love it. What are your Christmas morning traditions?

What you will need to make this Dairy Free Peppermint

    • espresso or strong hot brewed coffee - Choose the option that works best for you! We personally are in LOVE with our espresso maker (I don't have a code for this YET - but stay tuned!).
    • oat milk or coconut milk - again, choose what works best for you! For dairy free options, we have found that oat milk and coconut milk make for a frothier foam!
    • unsweetened cocoa powder - for that perfect chocolate flavor we are going for here!
    • peppermint extract - just a hint to get that right amount of chocolate to mint ratio in your coffee cup!
    • vanilla extract - for a perfect dash of flavor.
    • maple syrup - adds the right amount of natural sweetness here!

How to make a peppermint mocha latte?

Step one - If using an espresso machine, first thing grind the coffee beans and brew a double shot of espresso. If using a traditional coffee maker, pour coffee into your favorite mug.

Step two - Thoroughly blend or stir the cocoa powder, maple syrup, and peppermint extract into the oat milk (or you can use coconut cream).

Step three - Steam and froth the milk (we use our espresso machine, but for a more budget friendly option - heat the milk mixture in a small saucepan on the stove top and use a hand held frother to get a similar froth!)

PRO TIP: The key to success in this recipe to ensure the cocoa powder is completely blended BEFORE frothing. This gave this mocha recipe a velvety "hot chocolate" vibe 😎

Bonus for this recipe? It's DONE in like 5 minutes. Seriously. And made with ingredients I bet you have on hand already!

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year and perfect for this dairy-free peppermint mocha! Honestly guys, I CANNOT stop drinking this on the daily. But thankfully it's the better-for-me-kind of latte with none of those artificial flavors. So it's pretty much perfect cup of cheer πŸŽ„.

Decadent, festive, velvety chocolate heaven in a mug healthy peppermint mocha all made with simple ingredients.
